  1. The Dahlings appear to be holding the style of pipe culturally associated with opium smoking, which in turn is a cultural marker of dissolution. The fancy looking hand fans they carry are also a class marker.

The weird orbs you can’t make heads or tails of look like a category of enemy Bravely Default calls ” lantern” – in that game, they’re described as gatherings of spirits. I think they look like coral grown in a rough sphere around a glowing core.

The battlefield for the Chadarnook fight appears to feature windows to the outside of the house, and the way the screen flashes when switching between the “Goddess” and the “Demon” suggest lightning flashes from a storm outside.

  2. “What would have happened if Relm painted the picture of Gestahl?” My guess would be the party would end up hanging the picture in the Falcon and using it like Lordgenome’s head in TTGL.

I’ve always thought that the Dahlings alternating between healing and attacking the party was supposed to be the RPG equivalent of “coquettish” behavior. In the context of the Dahlings being animated paintings, it reminds me of that John Berger quote: “You painted a naked woman because you enjoyed looking at her, put a mirror in her hand and you called the painting “Vanity,” thus morally condemning the woman whose nakedness you had depicted for you own pleasure.” Maybe the Dahlings are for Owzer what the “tsundere” girl is to the player of a dating sim.
