Chatlog below the cut!

01[14:00] When last we left, the most violent strip tease since Sucker Punch.
[14:00] Huh, I think that’s as close to hearing Junketsu’s voice as ever so far in this series
[14:00] Fast healing is hax.
[14:01] And Ryuko and Senketsu are apparently a combining mecha.
01[14:02] I was thinking “blathering blatherskite!” but I decided that’s a bit obscure these days.
[14:02] I think Mako fits the personality better.
01[14:03] Except that she has no detectable skills at all, while Fenton Crackshell has precisely one.
[14:03] Ad.
[14:03] Mako’s skill is protagonist wrangling.
[14:04] Did the ad start at the end of the credits?
[14:04] Yup. And now it’s done.
01[14:06] why do they keep saying “bat-crap” instead of batshit?
01[14:06] It’s REALLY distracting.
01[14:07] Were they trying to keep to a PG rating or something? Because that ship sailed LONG ago.
[14:07] Yeah that is weird
[14:07] Case in point.
01[14:08] Ah, she’s gone full Pinkamena I see.
01[14:10] And of course they’ll use the life fibers to make new suits for everyone to fight in the Grand Finale.
[14:11] I guess Nui doesn’t actually need blood.
[14:11] Ad.
01[14:11]   Both the sound effect and the movement of Nui’s eye were Eva references. Implication is that she’s a cross between Asuka and Eva-01.
[14:11] And I’m back.
[14:13] “How dare you not kill us!?”
01[14:14] STOP SAYING BAT-CRAP IT’S WEIRD
[14:15] So Satsuki looks kind of like the Spiral King, as we’ve discussed earlier, but there’s another character from that show she looks even more like: The kid who put the Spiral King’s head in a jar.
01[14:15] The one with the glasses?
[14:16] From the drawing lots bunker
[14:16] Rossiu.
01[14:16] Oh, Rossiu!
01[14:16] Hmm.
01[14:16] Yeah, I guess.
[14:16] Kill la Kill has been described as “Simon’s daughter vs. Rossiu’s daughter.”
01[14:16] Ah yes, a delicious meal of deep-fried assorted objects.
[14:17] And Soroi’s tea. Food and drink come together.
[14:18] Ad.
[14:18] I’m back.
01[14:20] So it really is just Lavos.
[14:20] Yup. A virus on a cosmic scale.
01[14:23] Summers blood flows in both their veins.
01[14:24] It’s a giant enemy crab, CLEARLY.
01[14:25] Oh you have got to be kidding me
[14:25] Hey, she clearly hit it for massive damage.
01[14:25] Calling back to the fight club?
[14:26] As I recall, she was the most dangerous of all the two-star club captains Ryuko encountered
01[14:26] That she was.
01[14:26] Makes sense she’d be the first two-star uniform off the assembly line, and I wouldn’t be surprised if she has uniforms for the Elite Four with her.
[14:27] No comment on the nature of the assembly line?
01[14:27] ?
[14:27] I think he’s asking about the sewing club president’s uniform
[14:27] That I am.
01[14:27] It was only onscreen for a couple seconds.
01[14:27] Didn’t really hacve time.
[14:27] Fair enough.
[14:28] You can say that about a lot of things in this show
01[14:29] So, what about it?
[14:30] Came as a surprise to me the first time I saw it. Broke the established pattern of club presidents getting two-star uniforms.
[14:31] By now it’s clear that sewing club president is on par with the elite four
[14:31] He was in on the coup plot
[14:31] True. Never mind.
[14:31] Lavos is actually a very strong connection. Lavos had queen Zeal, Life Fibers have Ragyo. Janus/Magus lines up roughly with Satsuki.
[14:32] Well… sorry about that, y’all
[14:32] It happens.
01[14:33] That’s a good point about Lavos.
01[14:33] Hey Sylocat.
[14:33] I remembered the ‘stream when I woke up this morning, I had it in my mind for the first several hours of my consciousness today, but the last time I looked at the clock was 11:30, and then I just had the vague sense that I had something planned for later today
01[14:34] Hey, it happens.
01[14:35] Just sorry you missed the episode that confirmed all the video game jokes forever.
[14:35] I’ll post a comment with my own commentary in the comments thread then
[14:35] So, Arrlaari, would that make Ryuko Schala?
[14:36] That’s not as good a fit as Satsuki and Magus
01[14:37] I actually think the dad is Schala.
[14:37] In fact she bears a stronger resemblance to Glenn than to Schala
[14:37] He’s also the three wise men
01[14:37] Unwilling assistant, lost in the rise to power of Zeal/Ragyo.
01[14:38] Makes sense, the three gurus and Schala kind of go together.
[14:38] Yeah, those comparisons works much better.
[14:38] And now I want to play Crimson Echoes again
01[14:39] What’s Crimson Echoes?
[14:39] It’s that Chrono Trigger fanquel ROM Hack
01[14:39] Ah.
01[14:39] Any good?
[14:39] Apparently he thinks it’s worth replaying
[14:40] Eh, I’m a sucker for that kind of thing
[14:40] This all reminds me of a lengthy essay I read about Chrono Trigger and existentialism. I forget whether Crono Cross and existentialism was the same essay or a different one.
[14:40] And if the latter, I forget if it was by the same person

  1. Here's my own chatlog…

    PART 1:

    [14:00] < @Sylocat> Click
[14:00] < @Sylocat> Ah yes, when we left off, Ryuko was pulling herself apart, literally
    [14:00] < @Sylocat> Well, duh
    [14:00] < @Sylocat> Ahahah…
[14:00] < @Sylocat> And of course Nui isn't down yet
    [14:00] < @Sylocat> Oh great…
[14:01] < @Sylocat> The hell? Why is the video frozen… oh fuck it
    [14:01] < @Sylocat> The heck?
[14:02] < @Sylocat> Okay, it's back, and Senketsu is pulling his awesomest move yet
[14:02] < @Sylocat> Ooh, Ryuko gets her Zord transformation
    [14:02] < @Sylocat> Opening credits
[14:03] < @Sylocat> At the end of the credits is where an ad would be, so that will give anyone following along a chance to catch up
    [14:03] < @Sylocat> Here's where the ad would be
[14:04] < @Sylocat> Yeah, Satsuki, we really needed to be told that
    [14:04] < @Sylocat> Whoa!
    [14:04] < @Sylocat> Oh, is this the reflect-the-boss's-attacks fight?
    [14:04] < @Sylocat> “Clothes don't cry?” Clothes don't possess you either
    [14:04] < @Sylocat> Nui, you don't look like you're about to barf
    [14:05] < @Sylocat> I've got a guess…
    [14:05] < @Sylocat> Uh, that's a weird image
[14:05] < @Sylocat> My goodness, this dueling-energy-beams is lasting forever
[14:05] < @Sylocat> “Cut from the same cloth.” Of course that's the image
    [14:05] < @Sylocat> GAH
    [14:05] < @Sylocat> Nui, don't do that
    [14:06] < @Sylocat> Whoa… that worked?
[14:06] < @Sylocat> Okay, Nui is just cheating now
    [14:06] < @Sylocat> Oh! Dueling decoys
    [14:06] < @Sylocat> WHOA
    [14:07] < @Sylocat> That was… greusome
[14:07] < @Sylocat> Is Ryuko prepared for this too?
    [14:07] < @Sylocat> Wow.
    [14:07] < @Sylocat> Is this finally Nui's end?
    [14:07] < @Sylocat> EWW
    [14:07] < @Sylocat> Nui's final form transformation is greusome
    [14:08] < @Sylocat> Ah, Ryuko's low on MP
    [14:08] < @Sylocat> BAZOOKA BARRAGE
[14:08] < @Sylocat> (it occurs to me that HP and MP are a shared stat in this game)
[14:08] < @Sylocat> Ah, of course, that setup has a name
[14:09] < @Sylocat> Ah, she's freeing them from the Life Fibers
[14:09] < @Sylocat> Recruit ALL the club heads!
    [14:09] < @Sylocat> Ooh, the item drops
    [14:09] < @Sylocat> EWW
[14:09] < @Sylocat> Ahahah… what's-her-name is just calmly speaking with Nui spraying blood right into her face
[14:10] < @Sylocat> Wait, can Nui just manufacture new arms and stick them on? Or did Ryuko block that too?
[14:10] < @Sylocat> The rules are a little hazy here
    [14:11] < @Sylocat> Whoa
    [14:11] < @Sylocat> Now THAT's a test
    [14:11] < @Sylocat> What's going to happen here?
[14:11] < @Sylocat> Ah, Ryuko's not actually going to do it
[14:11] < @Sylocat> It's just a, “Would you be willing to take that test?” test
    [14:12] < @Sylocat> Ahahah…
    [14:12] < @Sylocat> All four of them?
    [14:12] < @Sylocat> Or wait, she stops after 2?
    [14:12] < @Sylocat> Wow
    [14:12] < @Sylocat> This is just weird
[14:12] < @Sylocat> That sounds weird out of context, Nonon
[14:13] < @Sylocat> Of course, Collar McDatapants still has his collar
    [14:13] < @Sylocat> I love the subtitles' expletives
    [14:13] < @Sylocat> D'awwwwww
[14:13] < @Sylocat> Wait, Satsuki planned this FROM THE START?
    [14:14] < @Sylocat> Wow
    [14:14] < @Sylocat> What a speech
    [14:14] < @Sylocat> Satsuki bowing? That doesn't look right
    [14:14] < @Sylocat> (I suppose that's the point, but still, that's just)
[14:15] < @Sylocat> Ahahah, of course Ryuko reacts that way
    [14:15] < @Sylocat> What the…
    [14:15] < @Sylocat> AHAHAH
    [14:15] < @Sylocat> “Minced, unidentifiable things”
    [14:15] < @Sylocat> I wouldn't eat those
[14:15] < @Sylocat> (an ad would be here)

  2. PART DEUX:

[14:16] < @Sylocat> Oh come on, Ryuko, Satsuki knows full well you were moved
    [14:16] < @Sylocat> Yeah, why hasn't Ragyo launched a counterattack then?
    [14:17] < @Sylocat> Ah, they're deprogramming Junketsu
    [14:17] < @Sylocat> “Disspelled curse on shield”
    [14:17] < @Sylocat> Wait, HE wears a uniform?
    [14:17] < @Sylocat> Eeyup, an Evangelion reference
    [14:18] < @Sylocat> “That's messed up,” he says
    [14:18] < @Sylocat> Ah, like a virus attacking a cell
[14:18] < @Sylocat> That was SUPPOSED to be a pun?
    [14:19] < @Sylocat> A bad pun, I mean?
    [14:19] < @Sylocat> Oh yeesh, a pun contest?
[14:19] < @Sylocat> Those are horrible to translate
[14:19] < @Sylocat> (I'd say the evolution thing was a Chrono Trigger reference, but IIRC, that aspect was completely added for the translation?)
[14:19] < @Sylocat> Of course the showdown is going to be at the academy, sheesh
[14:20] < @Sylocat> The only other option would be a space battle
[14:20] < @Sylocat> Oh, NOW he tells them
    [14:20] < @Sylocat> He's worse than those shamans in Ranma 1/2
[14:20] < @Sylocat> Wait, what was so weird about her calling him “mister?”
[14:20] < @Sylocat> And of course he takes charge
[14:21] < @Sylocat> Wait, did those missiles actually do anything? The ship doesn't look any worse than Nui left it
[14:21] < @Sylocat> Oh, of course Ryuko can't call Satsuki “sis”
[14:21] < @Sylocat> (the shippers will love that)
    [14:21] < @Sylocat> Ooh, a synchronized transformation sequence
[14:21] < @Sylocat> Uh, did the animators think we hadn't noticed that the transformation sequences were mirror images of each other?
[14:22] < @Sylocat> Ooh, now Satsuki shouts “override”
[14:22] < @Sylocat> So, are the other club presidents going to WHAT THE HELL IS THAT
    [14:22] < @Sylocat> Eww
    [14:23] < @Sylocat> shades of SCP-835
    [14:23] < @Sylocat> MAKO?!
[14:23] < @Sylocat> Wait, that episode was FORESHADOWING? I thought it was a one-off thing
    [14:23] < @Sylocat> Wow
    [14:23] < @Sylocat> That was unexpected
[14:23] < @Sylocat> I wonder which of the minibosses she takes down
[14:24] < @Sylocat> Probably that third one, the one that rescued Nui whos name I still can't remember
[14:24] < @Sylocat> These closing credits are so completely inappropriate it's hilarious
    [14:24] < @Sylocat> Well… that was impressive

  3. [14:09] @Sylocat Ahahah… what's-her-name is just calmly speaking with Nui spraying blood right into her face

I was a bit surprised Houmaru Rin calmly speaking into a stream of blood passed without comment in the group chat.

[14:13] @Sylocat Wait, Satsuki planned this FROM THE START?

The plan Satsuki had at the start led up to the battle at Ragyo Stadium. Her apology in this episode covers her conduct from the start of the show up until then.

[14:22] @Sylocat Ooh, now Satsuki shouts “override”

Anyone who wears Junketsu shouts “override”, but that word means something different for each of the three characters who have done that so far.
