Chatlog below the cut!

[15:00] <@Sylocat> More continuity!
[15:00] <Froborr> Don’t recognize that town?
[15:00] <Froborr> Oh, Rainbow Falls, right.
[15:00] <@Sylocat> She’s excited about going to a trading-post celebration… oh.
[15:00] <@Sylocat> Applejack sarcastic?
[15:01] <Froborr> That’s technically not sarcasm, it’s ironic understatement.
[15:01] <Froborr> Which unlike sarcasm, is literally true.
[15:01] <@Sylocat> whoa
[15:01] <Froborr> It’s a giant swapmeet?
[15:01] <@Sylocat> Ah, so “deadpan snarking” instead
[15:01] <@Sylocat> Wait, what IS this place?
[15:01] <Froborr> Yep.
[15:02] <Froborr> It’s a giant swapmeet.
[15:02] <@Sylocat> Wow
[15:02] <@Sylocat> This says quite a bit about Equestria’s economy
[15:02] <Froborr> …so Equestra-nauts was prophetic?
[15:02] <@Sylocat> Oh, she’s gonna sign autographs
[15:02] <@Sylocat> Wait, why doesn’t Rainbow Dash just ask Daring Do for an advance copy?
[15:03] <Froborr> Really? The AUTHOR doesn’t have a complete set of first editions?
[15:03] <@Sylocat> The background ponies in this episode are… eclectic
[15:03] <Froborr> Yes, yes they are.
[15:03] <Froborr> Ah, I see where the disaster is coming.
[15:03] <@Sylocat> Capitalism is magic? Or wait, since it’s done without money involved…
[15:04] <Froborr> Is… is Applejack deliberately swindling Rarity?
[15:04] <Froborr> Her facial expressions in that scene were… odd.
[15:04] <@Sylocat> Is this going to be the anti-capitalist episode? I thought they did that with SSCS6K
[15:04] <@Sylocat> Ahahahah
[15:05] <Froborr> And Secret of My Excess and Just for Sidekicks.
[15:05] <@Sylocat> Ah, an adventure-game fetch-quest!
[15:05] <Froborr> Oh gods it’s one of those awful Zelda trading sequences.
[15:05] <Froborr> Although the Deep Space Nine episode about one was actually pretty good.
[15:06] <@Sylocat> Lesson Zero expressed through consumerism
[15:06] <Froborr> Things I did not expect to learn when I started this project: The best approach to Spike episodes is Marxist criticism.
[15:06] <@Sylocat> Older? Doesn’t that mean it’s out of fashion?
[15:06] <Froborr> *facepalm*
[15:06] <Froborr> No, she said vintage is in.
[15:06] <@Sylocat> Shell game
[15:06] <@Sylocat> Ah, forgot
[15:06] <Froborr> Shell game, the vintage one is in Applejack’s hat.
[15:07] <Froborr> Rarity just accidentally stole a vintage broach.
[15:07] <@Sylocat> Dang, this one is intense
[15:07] <@Sylocat> Fluttershy to the rescue
[15:07] <Froborr> Fluttershy = the best pony (always and of course excepting Maud)
[15:07] <@Sylocat> Only two heads? That’s a step down from when they dealt with Cerberus
[15:08] <Froborr> Cerberus was also a LOT bigger.
[15:08] <@Sylocat> Ah, Rainbow Dash is trying the old adventure-game trick of using one item on everypony until she finds the one who wants it
[15:08] <Froborr> lol ,it’s the lamps Discord made!
[15:08] <Froborr> Antique… chicken..?
[15:09] <@Sylocat> I swear, they’re playing a video game
[15:09] <Froborr> Definitely.
[15:09] <@Sylocat> AHAHAH
[15:09] <@Sylocat> Found the first link of the chain
[15:09] <@Sylocat> Uh oh
[15:09] <@Sylocat> Accidentally trashed the key item
[15:09] <Froborr> Meanwhile, the mare’s all “BWAHAHAHA, the horseshoe is mine! Now the ritual can be completed!”
[15:09] <@Sylocat> She’ll have to reload from her save
[15:10] <@Sylocat> Yikes, Pinkie is scary today
[15:10] <Froborr> Pinkie Pie is a rules stickler now.
[15:10] <Froborr> The best part of being Chaotic is that you can be Lawful whenever you feel like it.
[15:10] <Froborr> Barker Pinkie!
[15:10] <@Sylocat> Wait, she’s cosplaying as the Flim Flam Brothers?
[15:11] <Froborr> LOL, he just wanted to break it!
[15:11] <@Sylocat> Ahahah… it was SUPPOSED to be broken
[15:11] <@Sylocat> Everyone who’s ever played an adventure game can relate to this one
[15:12] <@Sylocat> Ah, I was wondering what AJ and Rarity were up to
[15:12] <Froborr> This is actually a pretty complicated episode for this show.
[15:12] <@Sylocat> Oh no, it’s the “I’m sorrier” game
[15:12] <Froborr> I don’t think we’ve ever had a “C” plot before.
[15:12] <@Sylocat> Except The Best Night Ever
[15:12] <Froborr> Oh yeah, good point.
[15:13] <Froborr> Crystal Pony!
[15:13] <@Sylocat> Ah, she was going to dump them for a broken quill just to prove she wasn’t better than anypony else
[15:13] <Froborr> Hey, is that a disabled pony?
[15:14] <Froborr> That’s a pony wheelchair, right?
[15:14] <@Sylocat> Yep, a classic video game obstacle
[15:14] <@Sylocat> Complete with mini-game
[15:14] <Froborr> Cooking minigame, a classic!
[15:14] <Froborr> Spike trading comics in background.
[15:15] <@Sylocat> Yikes, that’s a lot of slobber
[15:15] <@Sylocat> Ooh, a timed event at the end, of course
[15:15] <Froborr> And now a Frogger-style minigame.
[15:15] <Froborr> Or Quicktime event, point.
[15:15] <@Sylocat> Uh oh
[15:15] <Froborr> Chekhov’s bearcall!
[15:16] <@Sylocat> That bear call is important
[15:16] <@Sylocat> She sold it already?
[15:16] <@Sylocat> AHAHAHAH… the mission requirements changed? That’s low even for a video game
[15:16] <Froborr> She wants a bearcall.
[15:16] <Froborr> Tht’s my guess.
[15:17] <@Sylocat> Oh… so it worked after all?
[15:17] <@Sylocat> I too was expecting the bear call… OH MY GOSH
[15:17] <Froborr> Old pony from Heart’s and Hooves Day in background a couple of shots ago.
[15:17] <@Sylocat> She’s selling herself into domestic servitude?
[15:18] <Froborr> No, Rainbow Dash is selling her into domestic servitude.
[15:18] <Froborr> Oh, they’ll trade Fluttershy for the books.
[15:18] <@Sylocat> And she realizes her mistake just a nanosecond too late
[15:19] <Froborr> Wow, lots of callbacks.
[15:19] <@Sylocat> Ah, so THAT’S the (first) message
[15:20] <Froborr> D’aww.
[15:20] <Froborr> I like the rainbow gavel.
[15:20] <@Sylocat> And now Fluttershy keeps the Orthros
[15:21] <@Sylocat> And now Rainbow Dash lectures THEM about friendship?
[15:21] <Froborr> Awww.
[15:21] <Froborr> That was a good one!
[15:21] <@Sylocat> That was a good one!
[15:21] <Froborr> Lol, great minds.
[15:21] <@Sylocat> …Great minds think alike
[15:21] <Froborr> …Ruth Bader Ginsburg!
[15:22] <@Sylocat> Okay, that’s just scary
[15:22] <Froborr> Damn, couldn’t keep it up.
[15:22] <Froborr> Anyway, yep. Good ep.

  1. The Twilight bits were painful. I hate cringe comedy, which is why I also avoided S4ep15 and haven't actually watched the whole thing yet. Also, speaking as a librarian, Twilight is a crappy one. You want to promote literacy? One of the best ways is to give away your books! I was thinking the moral here was going to be her shouting down Pinkie and telling her she considers the happiness of a new reader to be a good trade, instead of just standing there and letting Pinkie make Twi out to be all self-important to the point that no one wants the books. It's absolutely true that books can be full of memories — but another good way to MAKE new memories is to share what made them.
