Pony Thought of the Day: Slenderpony

Much as I hate “darker and edgier” versions of ponies and grimdark fics, I have to say, I have a soft spot for Slenderpony. Maybe it’s just because I love Slenderman, but something about him just *fits* with ponies. I think maybe it’s the fact that supposedly he targets children, yet in pretty much every Slenderblog and video series he’s going after young adults.

  1. The Slender Pony was one of the final bosses of the Vocational Death Cruise, that crossover between all the ask-pony tumblrs. He was the one that the Cutie Mark Crusaders (the “regular” versions, from Ask The Crusaders) faced. Sweetie Belle figured out that the key to beating him was befriending him (of course). The punchline was that, due to some Poison Joke and an oil trap in the haunted hotel, she had temporarily lost her horn and all her fur… so she looked like him.

I just had a vision of me trying to explain the Vocational Death Cruise to someone who didn't know anything about the pony tumblrs.

    Moving on…

A surprising subgenre of fanfics involve ponies actually playing an in-universe game about him (usually the video game “Slender”) rather than facing down the actual Slender Pony itself. As a result, of course, the fics are much more tonally consistent with the show.

  2. While I am aware of the ask-pony Tumblrs, I've never actually followed any of them.

That's actually pretty funny about them playing Slender.

I wonder about pony horror. I think I mentioned at one point that I find it unlikely ponies would invent the zombie apocalypse genre, but I think Lovecraftian horror would be right up their alley.

  3. The way grown mares talk about the Everfree Forest, it doesn't seem implausible.

For the pony Tumblrs… well, it's not for everyone, but there's a ton of crazy-awesome there. I follow Ask The Crusaders, Ask Discorded Whooves (one of the more remarkable things I've ever read, though a bit intense), and Dr. Adorable's Ask-Along Blog (sadly on hiatus).
